SublimeLinter 3 must be installed in order to use this plugin. If SublimeLinter 3 is not installed, please follow the instructions here.
Before using this plugin, you must ensure that
pyyaml is installed for Python 3 on your system, and available for direct import in Sublime Text 3.
Package Control should take care of the dependencies for you, but if not, you can do the following:
pyyamlby typing the following in a terminal:
# X is the minor version of python 3 you installed pip with. [sudo] pip-3.X install pyyaml # or on Windows: C:\Python3X\Scripts\pip.exe install pyyaml
For Windows, a PyYAML installer is also available from PyYAML on Pypi. Make sure to use a Python 3.X version.
For Debian(Linux), you can just use “apt-get install python3-yaml” (Since you might run into difficulties with pip3).
pyyaml is installed, you can proceed to install the SublimeLinter-pyyaml plugin if it is not yet installed.
Please use Package Control to install the linter plugin. This will ensure that the plugin will be updated when new versions are available. If you want to install from source so you can modify the source code, you probably know what you are doing so we won’t cover that here.
To install via Package Control, do the following:
Within Sublime Text, bring up the Command Palette and type
install. Among the commands you should see
Package Control: Install Package. If that command is not highlighted, use the keyboard or mouse to select it. There will be a pause of a few seconds while Package Control fetches the list of available plugins.
When the plugin list appears, type
pyyaml. Among the entries you should see
SublimeLinter-pyyaml. If that entry is not highlighted, use the keyboard or mouse to select it.
When the module is installed and you open a “YAML” file, you should see a message stating
SublimeLinter: pyyaml activated: <builtin>or similar in the console. The message should be similar to
SublimeLinter: yaml imported <module 'yaml' from '/usr/local/lib/python3.3/dist-packages/yaml/__init__.py'>if debug mode is on.
If you see
SublimeLinter: WARNING: import of yaml module in pyyaml failedinstead, try running
import yamlin the SublimeText console. If it fails, the module could not be located, please see Troubleshooting, or use the SublimeLinter google group to report installation and configuration problems.
If you would like to contribute enhancements or fixes, please do the following:
- Fork the plugin repository.
- Hack on a separate topic branch created from the latest
- Commit and push the topic branch.
- Make a pull request.
- Be patient. ;-)
Please note that modications should follow these coding guidelines:
- Indent is 4 spaces.
- Code should pass flake8 and pep257 linters.
- Vertical whitespace helps readability, don’t be afraid to use it.
- Please use descriptive variable names, no abbrevations unless they are very well known.
Thank you for helping out!
